A Conversation on Family Legacy in Montreux, Switzerland | Ein Gespräch über Family Legacy in Montreux, Schweiz (Ger | Eng)

➡️ In dieser Woche nahm Uli May­bach, Grün­der und Präsi­dent der Wil­helm & Karl May­bach Foun­da­tion, am World Fam­i­ly Office Forum Europe in Mon­treux, Schweiz, teil. Im Pan­el „Fam­i­ly Lega­cy: From Prin­ci­ples to Prac­tice“ ging es darum, was Lega­cy über Gen­er­a­tio­nen hin­weg wirk­lich bedeutet.

💡 Mod­eriert wurde die Diskus­sion von Sal­ly Wood­ford. Im Mit­telpunkt stand die Frage, wie Lega­cy über Struk­turen und Ver­mö­gen hin­aus ver­standen wer­den kann. Ein State­ment aus dem Gespräch blieb dabei beson­ders hän­gen: „Lega­cy is not etched in stone. It is woven into the lives of others.“

👥 Zusam­men mit Christi­na-Anne Kyosti, Giulio Pauen und Olivia Chowdry sprach Uli May­bach darüber, wie Werte lebendig bleiben und an die näch­ste Gen­er­a­tion weit­ergegeben wer­den kön­nen. Dabei wurde deut­lich: Pla­nung ist wichtig, aber Lega­cy entste­ht vor allem durch gelebte Erfahrung, Dia­log und gegen­seit­iges Vertrauen.

🧭 Für die May­bach Foun­da­tion knüpft dieser Gedanke direkt an die eigene Ver­ant­wor­tung an. Seit 2006 ste­ht struk­turi­ertes Men­tor­ing im Zen­trum unser­er Arbeit und begleit­et Men­schen dabei, Ori­en­tierung zu find­en und ihren eige­nen Weg zu gehen. Passend dazu teilte Uli May­bach im Pan­el den Gedanken: „An anchor keeps you where you are. The com­pass tells you where to go.“

🤝 Ger­ade im Aus­tausch in Mon­treux wurde deut­lich, dass gen­er­a­tio­nenüber­greifende Lega­cy nicht allein durch feste Struk­turen entste­ht. Entschei­dend sind die Men­schen dahin­ter, die Werte, die sie weit­ergeben, und die Art, wie die näch­ste Gen­er­a­tion aktiv ein­be­zo­gen wird.

➡️ This week, Uli May­bach, Founder & Pres­i­dent of The Wil­helm & Karl May­bach Foun­da­tion, joined the pan­el dis­cus­sion “Fam­i­ly Lega­cy: From Prin­ci­ples to Prac­tice” at the World Fam­i­ly Office Forum Europe in Mon­treux, Switzerland.

💡Mod­er­at­ed by Sal­ly Wood­ford, the pan­el explored what lega­cy means beyond struc­tures, doc­u­ments and wealth. One line from the con­ver­sa­tion stayed with us: “Lega­cy is not etched in stone. It is woven into the lives of others.”

👥 Togeth­er with pan­elists Christi­na-Anne Kyosti, Giulio Pauen and Olivia Chowdry, Uli May­bach reflect­ed on how val­ues can be car­ried across gen­er­a­tions not only through plan­ning, but through lived expe­ri­ence, dia­logue and mentorship.

🧭 For the May­bach Foun­da­tion, this idea is deeply con­nect­ed to our own his­to­ry. Since 2006, struc­tured men­tor­ship has been at the heart of our work. As Uli May­bach shared dur­ing the dis­cus­sion: “An anchor keeps you where you are. The com­pass tells you where to go.”

🤝The con­ver­sa­tion made clear that the most mean­ing­ful part of mul­ti-gen­er­a­tional lega­cy is often not the struc­ture itself, but the fam­i­ly, the val­ues behind it and the way the next gen­er­a­tion is invit­ed to car­ry them forward.
