Founding
In
October 2006, the Maybach Foundation announced its initiative
to launch a new global mentoring program at the United Nations first
Global Youth Leadership Summit in New York City. The Excellence in
Mentoring Leadership program is based on the premise that these mentor-
protégé relationships can further innovation in specific
fields: science and research, art, design and architecture, community
and ethics, and business and technology. The premise draws
its
inspiration from the history of founder
Ulrich Schmid-Maybach's great-grandfather Wilhelm Maybach, who was an
orphan who eventually realized his own promise thanks to the support
and partnership of mentor Gottlieb Daimler. Read some of the
testimonials
from
the launch of the Foundation below.
Model
The
Maybach
Foundation is a family foundation
that operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The bulk of Foundation's fundraising
and administrative expenses are covered by core funding. However, the Foundation
fundraises for all program costs, as with a traditional nonprofit.

Additionally,
the Foundation's core and only program, the Excellence in Mentoring Leadership
program,
is unique in several regards. It integrates corporate social
responsibility, family philanthropy and social innovation through a
premium level of guidance, training and experience from mentors who can
propel their protégés to have a substantial and long-term
impact.
Our
access to pivotal global networks of decisionmakers
is unparalleled. Although we fundraise for each mentor pair as they
begin their work together, our experience and unique network permit us
to dedicate tremendous resources to enable protégés to
reach their full potential.
Strategic
Partnerships
The
Maybach Foundation is honored that a strategic partnership continues
today with Daimler
AG and
its Maybach
brand of
luxury automobiles in particular, reflecting the historic
collaboration between Wilhelm Maybach and Gottlieb Daimler more than a
centry ago.
In
addition to providing core support to the Excellence
in Mentoring Leadership program, Daimler and Maybach partner with the
Foundation to offer shared events that help
connect protégés
with world-class mentors and patrons. This intersection of corporate
social responsibility and family philanthropy results in an
unparalleled level of support to each
individual protégé, helping make true innovation
possible as their careers develop.
